Careers Insight

Recent careers talks have provided pupils with insight into diverse future pathways, from working with Ugandan refugees to promoting fashion brands.

As part of our Futures Programme, twenty-five alumnae and parents gave up their time to talk to more than 400 pupils from Year 9 through to the Sixth Form this month; they shared invaluable experience and advice about preparing for and finding the right career path, as well as some top tips on making the most of what is on offer at South Hampstead.

It was wonderful to be joined by so many former pupils from all generations: Joan Arnold (Class of 1966) shared her wisdom following a prestigious career in education; Alexandra Jo Heller (Class of 2010), a Senior Strategist with an award-winning innovation agency, woke up early to Zoom in from Canada; and Katya Ring (Class of 2015), our most recent visiting graduate, spoke to pupils about her work advising Rishi Sunak on economic policy. Special thanks go to all our alumnae and parents, as well as our governors and hosts – Nikhil Chandra, Jacqueline Todd and Heather Davies – who introduced our speakers, chaired the Q&A and kept the careers sessions to time with great skill and enthusiasm.

At South Hampstead, pupils start using Unifrog in Year 7 – an online platform that encourages pupils to reflect upon their individual skills and start on their CVs early, as well as allowing them to explore different career paths.
