Top Investors
A team of five Year 10 students have triumphed in a national investment challenge.
The Girls Are Investors (GAIN) investment challenge is an annual stock pitch competition which aims to provide young women with a unique insight into the world of investment management. Guided by industry experts and supported by an investment mentor over seven online sessions, students are advised on whether to buy, hold, or sell the stock of an allocated company as a potential investment opportunity, learning about operations, profitability and sustainability.
Akshata, Dasha, Ella, Nush and Ella in Year 10, who named their team Capital Gainz, had the opportunity to engage with real investment professionals and develop research, data analysis, debating and presentation skills. With over 140 UK teams competing this year, mostly comprised of Sixth Form students, the girls were the top independent school team and ranked third overall, despite being amongst the youngest participants – an outstanding achievement.
“We explored financial reports, tracked market trends and produced a pitch and report that we were genuinely proud of. We are very grateful to have had the support of an industry mentor, and our very helpful economics teacher Mr O’Grady. The challenge wasn’t easy – balancing deadlines, learning investment terminology from scratch, and presenting our ideas professionally was definitely a learning curve. But it also taught us what the world of investment is like, and seriously boosted our confidence in the process. We’re incredibly proud to have represented our school and made it to the top three.”
