Spanish Homestays
Pupils put their language-learning into practice and explored the cultural heritage of Andalucía at the end of the Easter holidays.
Twenty-nine pupils from Year 9 and 10 enjoyed a sunny trip to Southern Spain, staying with local host families. As well exploring numerous local sights, the girls attended language lessons, enjoyed churros at a local café, and perfected their dance technique at a flamenco class. Hermione and Inaaya in Year 10 report back on their highlights:
“Our lovely Spanish family was very welcoming and really encouraged us to speak Spanish, so I grew more confident as the week went on. We had the chance to experience Spanish culture too with lots of amazing things planned for us. My favourite was our day in Mijas where we went to a chocolate factory to make our own chocolate, visited a miniature museum, and walked around the idyllic town. Another highlight was visiting Castillo Colomares, the largest monument in the world in tribute to Christopher Columbus.”
“The trip was great for trying new activities and learning different things – I had the best time. My host family was super kind and funny and made me feel very welcome. Another highlight was the Muslim architecture of the Alhambra in Granada. It was fascinating to see different design patterns throughout the ages.”
The Modern Languages Department has been running homestay visits to the region for 14 years – one of the many international trips we offer pupils each year.
