Eco Symposium
One of our pupils was selected to deliver a powerful speech as part of the GDST Global Wisdom in Sustainability Symposium.
170 students from 11 different GDST schools attended the symposium, hosted by Bromley High School. The day aimed to highlight the intersectionality of Diversity & Inclusion and Sustainability through a series of keynote and student speakers and workshops, such as tackling period poverty through eco solutions and renewables for energy justice. Hailey in Year 9 was chosen to deliver her speech entitled Sustainability as Survival: Merging Timeless Wisdom with Tomorrow’s Vision – a powerful call to remember the vital role of indigenous knowledge in solving problems caused by climate change. Hailey reports back on her experience:
“Having the opportunity to give my own speech was such a rush—the energy in the room was so positive, and it felt like everybody was completely engaged in the discussion. I also got to meet some really great people from other schools and charities. It was amazing to connect over a shared interest and goal. There were two guest speakers with incredible presentations, but my personal favorite was Dr Dion, who spoke about clothing poverty and the idea that climate change isn’t something in the future—it’s happening now to communities close to us.
The symposium helped me to realise that ‘global wisdom’ is not only about learning from others but about changing the way we think, act and collaborate. The whole experience was a reminder that sustainability is not a solo endeavor, but rather something we must build together.”
