Changemakers Afternoon

Pupils spent an afternoon focusing on sustainability, social action, wellbeing, oracy, diversity and inclusion.

As part of our ever-expanding academic enrichment programme, pupils in Years 7 to 10 joined tailored workshops encouraging them to explore complex topics and expand their horizons by making cross-curricular links between the Sciences and Humanities.  The practical, half-day sessions enabled students to work alongside different classmates to solve problems, express their ideas, and consider how they can effect meaningful change.

Year 7 learned more about biodiversity and developed their creative writing skills with a focus on nature and imagining positive futures; Year 8 created innovative zines to raise awareness of human-caused ocean problems; Year 9 generated ideas about how to combat climate change with a hands-on Lego workshop, while Year 10 presented their innovative suggestions on how to improve the local area. Lower Sixth students explored future pathways, with a session on how to channel their interests into a career with a positive impact – we are grateful to our parent volunteers who came into school to deliver such inspiring talks.

The changemakers afternoon will run each year, with the aim of developing more future-focused skills and to encourage pupils to feel empowered to play their part in the world.
