Bursary Mentoring

Our Bursary Mentors provide wonderful role models for our current pupils and are brilliant examples of the impact a South Hampstead education can have. This term, we were delighted to welcome back Datshiane Navanayagam (Class of 2005), one of our Alumnae Bursary Mentors. Datshiane is an accomplished journalist whose career spans 5 News, ITV, BBC One, Radio 4, World Service, and Channel 4. She generously gave her time to support Asantewaa, a current bursary award holder (Year 10), offering thoughtful guidance on pursuing a career in journalism.

During their session, Datshiane shared practical advice on accessing local work experience opportunities within Camden, as well as helping Asantewaa think carefully about her next academic steps and future degree choices. The conversation provided valuable insight into the realities of the industry, while also offering encouragement and reassurance at a pivotal stage of Asantewaa’s journey.

These mentoring sessions form a key part of our Bursary Mentoring Scheme, which is designed to provide a strong, supportive pastoral framework for bursary award holders throughout their time at South Hampstead and beyond. From the very beginning of a pupil’s journey, we aim to ensure each student feels known, supported, and confident.

The continued involvement of our alumnae plays a vital role in the success of this programme, offering pupils meaningful connections, role models, and a tangible sense of what is possible. If you would like to get involved with our Bursary Mentoring Scheme and fid our about the overall transformative impact of bursaries, we would love to hear from you – please contact us here at: alumnae@shhs.gdst.net to find out more.
