Mandarin Immersion
Students celebrated the Lunar New Year and took part in a special universities day to explore Chinese-related degree options.
To mark the start of the Year of the Horse, we welcomed a guest instructor who led a lively Chinese fan dance workshop, as pupils from Year 7 through to the Sixth Form enjoyed learning new skills together. In Chinese tradition, the Horse symbolises energy, confidence, and determination, and the year is believed to bring progress, vitality, and new opportunities. The celebrations continued with our catering team serving Chinese-themed dishes at lunch.
Meanwhile Sixth Form Mandarin students ventured to UCL for a universities day to hear more about Chinese-related higher education options, including exchange programmes abroad. Our girls exchanged ideas and discussed their learning experiences with peers and university representatives from the University of Cambridge, LSE and Warwick, amongst others. They made the most of the opportunity to network, attend talks, and discover more about degree options and potential future pathways in Chinese language and culture.
All pupils have the option of studying Mandarin in Years 7 to 9, with many choosing to continue to GCSE and beyond. Mandarin students have the opportunity to hone their language skills through online sessions with our partner schools (National Overseas Chinese Senior High School and National LuoDong High School), visits to Chinatown, and trips to Taiwan. In the Sixth Form, we offer the Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) level 3 and 4 qualifications.
