STEM Success

GCSE and A Level Scientists have once again triumphed in national challenges designed to stretch their thinking. 

The British Physics Olympiad Senior Challenge aims to test students’ problem-solving skills, encouraging them to apply fundamental physical principles to novel situations, with over 6000 students taking part each year.  Many congratulations to all our Lower Sixth Physicists who embraced the challenge with great tenacity, with a special mention to Sofia P and Ava-Juliana who achieved Silver awards, placing them in the top 25% in the country. Sixteen Year 11 students tackled this year’s Intermediate Physics challenge, with everyone achieving stellar results; congratulations to our 15 pupils achieved Bronze awards and to Sadie on her impressive Gold award, placing her in the top 9% in the UK. This year, more Year 10 pupils than ever entered the challenging Olympiad – and everyone was awarded either Bronze, Silver or Gold. Congratulations to all, with a special mention to our ten top-scorers who achieved Gold: Amelie, Boern, Honey, Charlotte B, Charlotte P, Frances, Leah, Obehi, Masha and Sophia.

Meanwhile our Biologists have been taking part in national challenges developed in collaboration with the Royal Society of Biology and University of Warwick.  Congratulations to all our Year 10 GCSE Biologists who achieved stellar results in this year’s challenge: 38 students were commended or highly commended, 20 pupils were awarded Bronze and 12 Silver. A further 5 students – Amaya, Amelie, Bella, Claudia and Honey – were awarded Gold. In the Intermediate Biology Olympiad, a dozen A Level students were commended including 6 Bronze and 2 Silver awards – congratulations to our top scorers, Lilia and Mabel.
