Summer Music
The final half term of the academic year has been filled with more spectacular music-making.
Over 100 pupils successfully completed ABRSM and Trinity examinations, performing admirably despite the blazing summer temperatures. We also held our first ever Open Mic event – a platform for our talented singer-songwriters to showcase their original music, and for our Year 7 to 10 bands to perform.
The following week’s Summer Chamber Music Concert featured a series of outstanding performances from our string chamber groups, intermediate wind quintet and recorder ensemble; particular highlights included the first movement of Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 1 in F major and Shostakovich’s Five Pieces for Two Violins and Piano. A few days later, some of our finest woodwind players visited an assembly at Holy Trinity Primary School where they performed together as an ensemble and gave short solo performances to demonstrate the unique sonority of their individual instruments.
As the term drew to a close, our Summer Concert provided an opportunity for our younger large ensembles to take centre stage. One unforgettable moment was Sinfonia’s energetic performance of YMCA, complete with choreography, which brought the concert to a joyful conclusion. Later that week, we welcomed parents to our Joint Wind Band Concert, where musicians from the Junior and Senior Schools combined to perform an exciting, varied programme, showcasing the strength of music-making across the whole school community. The term concluded with fantastic performances at Wrapped, featuring Chorale, Big Band and our Year 10 band, Helix. Congratulations to all our musicians on their outstanding performances throughout the term.
