Prague Music Tour
At the start of the summer holidays, 30 musicians from Year 10 to the Sixth Form went on tour in the Czech Republic.
Girls from the Chamber Choir, Senior Choir and Symphonic Wind Band headed to Plzen and Prague for a musical, Czechian adventure. Charlotte in Year 11 reports back on the highlights of the trip.
Tuesday 7th July: After a very early start, we arrived in Prague, took the coach to our first hotel and enjoyed a swim before going straight into music rehearsals, followed by a delicious dinner.
Wednesday 8th July: After breakfast, we took a coach to the spa town of Karlovy Vary, taking the funicular up a hill and climbing a viewing tower to see the beautiful views. We had time to explore the town and have lunch before we made our way to our first concert, where we performed in an outdoor amphitheatre – a change from Waterlow Hall! We concluded the day with some chicken schnitzel and chips before driving back to the hotel and getting packed, ready for our early checkout the following morning.
Thursday 9th July: We took a coach into Prague’s beautiful old town, enjoyed a 3-hour walking tour with local tour guides, and saw the famous Prague Astronomical Clock. After some free time, we walked to our second concert venue: the Church of St Martin in the Wall. Performing Battle of Jericho here, in a venue with fantastic acoustics, was definitely a highlight of the trip for me. Dinner that night was extra special, as we were on a boat cruise down the Vltava river, enjoying Prague’s sights from a different perspective.
Friday 10th July: We started our morning at a park with a mirror maze before going to the Petrin Tower, which was tiring to climb but definitely worth it for the views. We enjoyed some ice creams before driving to the small picturesque town of Jicin, then onto perform in our final concert of the trip in a venue that was half indoors, half outdoors. We ended the concert with ‘Eye of the Tiger’, played by Symphonic Wind Band and sung by Senior Choir – a fun finale, before our final dinner of the trip. Driving back on the coach, as has become tradition, everyone had a fantastic time singing karaoke, led by the ever-enthusiastic Miss Maxwell, before settling down together to cheer on the teams in the World Cup!
Saturday 11th July: Our final day started with bowling at the hotel before some free time in central Prague for souvenir shopping and eating traditional chimney cakes filled with ice cream. Despite our flight being severely delayed, we eventually returned to Heathrow – exhausted but with memories that we will remember for a long time to come.
