Music Concerts
Another busy and exciting term of music-making is underway.
We began our programme of events with the annual Music Scholars’ Reception, where thirty of our scholars and their parents gathered for an evening of socialising. In October, we held two Scholars’ Recitals, which featured a captivating performance of the first movement of Beethoven’s Tempest Sonata and a moving rendition of Amy Beach’s Romance for violin and piano, whilst our younger scholars showcased their talents on a range of instruments including the bassoon, oboe, French horn and double bass. Next up was the ever-popular House Music Competition, which brought together over fifty students performing both as soloists and in House ensembles, as well as enthusiastic performances by the whole House. Our first Teatime Concert of the year featured a delightful series of solo performances from students across the Senior School, including a fantastic Hadestown medley arranged by one of our Upper Sixth scholars, Sophie.
We are also delighted to celebrate the achievements of two of our Lower Sixth students. Anabelle was successful in her re-audition for a place in the National Youth Orchestra’s cello section, while Rosa reached the final round of auditions and was invited to join the orchestra as a guest in the oboe section for two days of its spring residential course – congratulations to both girls on these fantastic achievements. Several students are eagerly awaiting the results of their National Youth Choir auditions; we are fortunate to have around ten students gain places in the choir each year, and we wish everyone waiting to hear the very best of luck. Finally, Aiza, Zoe and Isabel in Years 8 and 9 were invited to callbacks for the Royal Opera House’s production of The Magic Flute – we look forward to hearing the outcome.
We now look forward to an even busier second half of term, with another Teatime Concert, our Rock and Pop Concert, the much-anticipated production of SIX The Musical (teen edition), the Chamber Choir performing at the Royal Albert Hall, two Winter Concerts and, finally, our much-loved Carol Service to close the term.
