Computer Scientists
Junior School to A Level Computer Science students have excelled in national challenges this term.
Computer Science students from Year 6 up to the Sixth Form took part in the Bebras Challenge, an annual competition organised by the Raspberry Pi Foundation which challenges students to use their computational and logical thinking skills, with around 400,000 students across the UK taking part. Congratulations to our 80 students who were awarded Gold Certificates, placing them in the top 10% nationally, with a special mention to the following ‘best in school’ in their respective age categories: Isabelle in Year 6; Rosaline in Year 7; Isabelle in Year 9; Iris in Year 11; and Ava in the Lower Sixth.
Meanwhile, Year 8 students took part in the CyberFirst Girls Competition, a national competition run by the National Cyber Security Centre, part of GCHQ. Well done to our top problem-solvers, Claudia, Lily, Maya and Stella – team Little Data Lovelaces – with a special mention to our best-performing student, Lily. Also this term, our A Level students attended Computer Science in Action to hear from leading academics and industry innovators, including Sue Black OBE; students explored how computer vision is being used to identify talent in sports, discovered how natural language processing can be used to encode meaning, and a learnt more about the capabilities and limitations of AI.
