Duke of Edinburgh Gold

Our latest group of Gold DofE Award holders were invited to Buckingham Palace to celebrate their achievements.

Four current Sixth Formers, and several former students, were guests of honour in the Buckingham Palace Garden last week as they collected their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards, congratulated by his Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh. They also heard from footballer Alex Scott MBE who delivered an inspiring speech about her journey from a council estate in Tower Hamlets to playing for England at Wembley.

Ruth Marvel OBE, CEO of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, said: “These young people have shown extraordinary perseverance, creativity and self-belief to be here. A Gold DofE Award will equip them with lifelong skills – and it’s wonderful to see our Award holders sharing their experiences, having fun, and discussing their plans for the future.”

Each year, hundreds of South Hampstead pupils embark on the DofE awards; the Gold Award involves five key sections: volunteering, skills, physical recreation, expedition, and a residential project. Fourteen Sixth Formers have completed their Gold Award since September and a further 23 have signed up for expeditions this summer, testament to our students’ resilience and commitment.
