First Impressions

We caught up with some of our Year 7 pupils to find out what they have most enjoyed about their first half term at the Senior School.

What’s been the best thing about your first few weeks in Year 7?

  • Laughing with my friends.
  • The library, all the clubs, and the canteen snacks.
  • I enjoy all my subjects and how much independence we’re given.
  • I’ve joined a band which I love.
  • All the friends I’ve made – I truly think that I will be friends with them for a long time.
  • The teachers are all really nice and help you if you’re stuck.

Why did you and your parents choose South Hampstead?

  • The amazing facilities and opportunities.
  • The building itself is really welcoming – it’s a modern environment that inspires learning.
  • It’s the best option if you want to really be yourself.
  • I loved the atmosphere and seeing girls laughing with their friends and enjoying lessons.

Can you describe the Senior School in 3 words?

  • Busy, diverse, vibrant.
  • Positive, interesting, exciting.
  • Welcoming, supportive, unique.
  • Fun, amazing, perfect.

What’s your favourite aspect of Senior School life so far?

  • I love the sport – there is so much space and there are so many more sports than at my old school.
  • In Computer Science, we get taught how to write code and do it by ourselves.
  • There’s a lot more responsibility and freedom.
  • The Science facilities are amazing – we get to do so many exciting experiments.
  • I’ve already made friends in the Sixth Form and Year 10 through Music.

Which clubs are you enjoying?

  • Chamber Choir.
  • I’m doing netball – there’s a team for everyone and its really, really, really fun.
  • Football and tennis and gymnastics.
  • I am enjoying drama, basketball and dodgeball.
  • Football club is the best, and AI club.

If South Hampstead was an animal, which animal would it be and why?

  • A penguin (of course) because they’re everywhere, even the biscuits for open mornings.
  • Maybe a cat because they have nine lives – South Hampstead girls are resilient and always persevere.
  • I could imagine the school as a lion because they’re strong and proud – there’s an ethos of fearlessness here, whether taking part in House challenges or sports matches.

If you were Head of South Hampstead for a day, what changes would you make?

  • I would introduce free periods for younger years so we could have more time to hang out together.
  • Nothing!

What are you most looking forward to?

  • Going on trips and trying out new clubs.
  • I’m looking forward to the new gym and the renovated rooftop space.
  • Trampolining!

What advice would you give to other girls considering joining South Hampstead?

  • Be organised and write in your planner.
  • South Hampstead is a really great school – it pushes you to try harder and have fun.
  • Don’t be afraid to try new things and just be yourself because you’ll make new friends.
  • It’s amazing.
