Fringe Performers

Each year, our Sixth Formers have the opportunity to perform at the world-famous Edinburgh Fringe.

This year, a group of ten students took a play by Kwame Owusu to the festival. Horizon is a witty, superhuman coming-of-age story about the quest to find your place in the world – a family-friendly mix of school banter, superhero fantasy and conspiracy. The members of South Hampstead’s Fuzed Theatre Company began rehearsals back in the spring term, before travelling to the Scottish capital in early August.

Undeterred by the winds and rain of Storm Floris, the girls promoted the show around Edinburgh with great enthusiasm. Audience reviews following their five performances were similarly effusive: “Performed by a fabulous youth group – so well acted and directed… Great play by a talented young cast… What an impressive group of performers… A big five stars from me!”

Playwright Kwame Owusu was one of the first to watch the girls perform, staying to chat to the girls after their performance. As well as giving out flyers and performing each day, the girls watched a dozen performances at various venues throughout the city during their stay, making the most of the rich, cultural experience. Director of Drama, Ms Martin, added: “I’ve been so impressed by how the girls have embraced this opportunity. They’ve shown commitment, courage and creativity in spades – it’s been a joy to work with such a talented and cohesive group of actors.”
