Ladies Lunch
Last week we welcomed back South Hampstead alumnae from the Classes of the 1950s for a summer lunch in our Burgess Room.
A sunny Tuesday afternoon was filled with lively chatter as our alumnae reunited – for some, seeing friends they hadn’t seen in over 65 years – and had a chance to meet some of our current year 7 girls. In a presentation given by our archivist Jo Coates, guests heard some fascinating stories of our school history, including the founding of the GPDST (now the GDST) and attitudes to women’s education in the 1880s, the evacuation of South Hampstead girls to Berkhamsted during World War Two, and some first-hand accounts of South Hampstead girls attending Queen Elizabeth’s coronation in 1953 – one of whom was in the room with us!
Head Anna Paul came to welcome our Class of 1950s alumnae back to the school, where she listened to some of their stories and memories and shared with them just how much (or how little!) has changed since their own time here. For more of Mrs Paul’s reflections on meeting our alumnae at the Ladies Lunch, read her blog here.
We are always thrilled to welcome our alumnae back to school and be an active part of our community – if you’re an alumna interested in joining us for any of our future events, visit our Mehr Licht community page here.
