Maths Awards

Sixth Form Further Maths students presented at the Royal Institute, whilst younger Mathematicians shone in a national challenge.

Each year, our pupils enter a range of challenges run by the UK Mathematics Trust. Our Mathematicians in Years 9 to 11 have had another brilliant year in the Intermediate Maths Challenge, recently achieving 56 Bronzes, 64 Silvers and 18 Golds. Congratulations to all our pupils who took part and a special mention to our thirteen pupils who qualified to compete follow-on ‘kangaroo’ rounds after half term.

The Maths Department also took Lower Sixth students to a series of lectures at the Royal Institute this term, where they heard from various speakers including James Grime, Matt Parker and Ben Sparks talking about various weird and wonderful concepts, such as the birthday paradox, Germain primes and the Sierpinski triangle.  Well done to two of our Further Mathematicians – Dia and Sofia – who competed in the Maths slam with their impressive talk about fractals in snowflakes.
