Music Highlights
The summer term has been exceptionally busy, with more than ten concerts and recitals.
Our Music Scholars have also given wonderful lunchtime recitals, enjoyed by staff and peers alike, whilst dozens of pupils have taken their ABRSM and Trinity examinations. Some performance highlights include the GDST Choral & Orchestral concert, which saw members of our Senior Choir join forces with over 250 singers from nine other GDST schools to perform Mozart’s Coronation Mass accompanied by the London Mozart Players. Lower Sixth Music Scholar, Carolina, wowed the audience with her exceptional performance of the first movement of Walton’s Viola Concerto.
More than 150 pupils performed at last week’s spectacular Summer Concert which was made particularly memorable due to the Chamber Choir, Lower Sixth String Quartet and Symphonic Windband joining forces to perform a specially commissioned piece of music, Fanfare and Celebration, in honour of the much-loved Dr Collisson who is retiring after 12 years at South Hampstead. He leaves behind an incredible legacy as he hands the baton onto our current Assistant Director of Music, Miss Ellis, in September.
Finally, during the final few days of the year, choirs and ensembles took to the stage at South Hampstead Wrapped, with our pupil-led ukulele orchestra welcoming guests as they arrived – an uplifting finale to another joyful year of music-making.
