Space Designers
A team of aspiring engineers took part in the London round of the UK Space Design Competition at Imperial College.
Working together with students from other schools, our pupils from Year 11 and the Lower Sixth were tasked with designing a space elevator: a system to move goods and passengers between Earth and its orbital points. Throughout the day, students learnt about how space engineering companies are structured and how much hard work goes into the design of a system. Our students were praised for their carefully considered use of machine learning and how they managed to minimise the operational downtime during construction and use.
Well done to Ava, PJ, Sofia P, Sofia Y and Sophia E in the Lower Sixth and to Alex, Debi, Pandora and Rose in Year 11 who all showed plenty of courage, resilience and creativity in tackling problems way beyond their comfort zones – with a special congratulations to Pandora who put herself forward and was elected to Systems Engineer, coordinating every sub-team’s work.
