Sporting Success

Highlights of the autumn term have included sporting triumphs on a local, regional and national level.

Our skiers have had a great start to the season, with our A team crowned British champions at the national finals in Swadlincote, where two of our skiers were selected to race as part of the England parallel slalom team. Meanwhile, our talented Senior cross-country team made the national finals of the English Schools’ Athletics Association cup – a South Hampstead first. Despite challenging conditions, they showed tremendous grit and determination, placing 15th out of the top 28 schools in the country – a fantastic achievement. South Hampstead was also named as one of the best schools in the UK for cricket in the latest issue of The Cricketer magazine; read more here.

Our U12A football team began the season scoring 30 goals and conceding only two across their first four matches before winning the ISSSA (Islington Secondary Schools Sports Association) tournament, whilst our U15 and U16 netball squads made it through to the Middlesex county finals which will be played in March. At our annual gym show, The Greatest Showman, our Sixth Form Gym Captains created and taught many of the pieces, which ranged from solo, duo, group and full squad routines on floor and apparatus. Six gymnasts also performed superbly at the U13B girls’ novice floor and vault competition and, testament to their dedication and hard work in training this term, took home first place! Our top dancers also had the opportunity to develop their skills as they joined fellow GDST pupils for a full day of professional workshops at Danceworks.

Alongside our core winter sports, there have been 19 different co-curricular sports clubs and sessions on offer this term – from badminton and basketball to padel and pickleball – enabling every student to find an activity she enjoys.
