Top Debaters

Four of our top debaters excelled in the world’s largest debating competition, run by the Oxford Union.

Each year, thousands of students from over 20 countries take part in the Oxford Schools’ debating competition; only the top-performing teams go on to compete in Finals Day at the storied Oxford Union, one of the world’s most prestigious debating societies. Lakshanaa in Year 10, Marina in Year 11, and Molly and Sophia in the Upper Sixth all made this year’s finals, competing against 123 teams from India, Canada, Hong Kong and more. A special congratulations to Sophia and Molly who made it through to the Silver Final; in a first for South Hampstead, Sophia won Best Speaker and Molly came third overall, out of 248 speakers – an extraordinary achievement!
