Top Scientist

A Year 7 pupil has triumphed at the European Championships of the International Science Bee.

After taking part in a qualifying event at school, then making it through to the online regional semi-finals, Lily was invited to participate in the European Championships taking place in Vienna over half term, where she competed against aspiring Scientists from France, Germany, Switzerland and the UK. The annual competition consists of buzzer-based rounds with 30 questions each, with top students advancing to a final round.

In her first challenge, a team academic competition, Lily was competing solo, up against teams of boys, securing an impressive second place. The day involved a multiple-choice environmental science paper as well as quizzes covering a range of topics, including astronomy, computer science and maths. In the main individual science competition, Lily won all three rounds to make the finals, where she was narrowly pipped to first place by just one point, before ending the day with the biology competition, where she came first in her age group – a fantastic achievement.

Each year, over 50,000 students around the world take part in events hosted by International Academic Competitions.
