Activities Week

Pupils enjoyed a week off timetable to expand horizons, enrich their learning, and develop skills for the future.

Year 7 took part in a self-defence workshop, designed video games, ventured to Hampstead Heath to support Heath Hands’ conservation work, and developed workplace skills as part of our Futures Certificate. They also embarked on an independent learning project – an opportunity to take the initiative and think creatively about their work. Collaborating in small groups, they imaginatively tackled the theme of reactions, exploring topics as diverse as black holes, tsunamis and emotions over the course of three days, before showcasing their findings to parents and judges. Congratulations to our winning team – Ana, Edda, Lys, Ottavia and Sophia – for their impressive project on adrenaline.

Year 8 pupils braved the rain for a day of team building and bushcraft skills led by our Head of Outdoor Learning, learning to navigate in the wilderness, build shelters, filter water and light fires. They also extended their learning on ecosystems and climate change on a Geography trip to London Zoo and immersed themselves in Tudor Court life at Hampton Court Palace. As part of our annual Think Global, Act Local social action project, pupils collaborated with students from the Umubano Academy in Rwanda to explore sustainability challenges and develop innovative ideas to design out waste. Well done all our pupils who incorporated what they learned about systems thinking, branding, marketing and storytelling to deliver compelling pitches, with a special mention to our winners, Leafy Green: Cleo, Elara, Eloise, Emilia, Georgia, Jemima, Maggie and Georgia.

Year 9 worked with LSE Generate – the award-winning entrepreneurship hub at the London School of Economics and Political Science – to develop skills in decision-making, negotiation, creative problem-solving and entrepreneurial thinking, all grounded in real-world application. They also navigated tube strikes and thunderstorms to conduct ecology fieldwork in Epping Forest and, for those not on their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh expedition, ended the week with a hands-on outdoor learning experience designed to build independence and practical life skills.

As part of Lower Sixth’s Futures Week, LSE Generate led an interactive workshop on behavioural science, helping students to build personal frameworks for navigating future university and career paths as they prepare for the next stage of their educational journeys – one of the many initiatives in place, as part of our Beyond 150 strategy, to ensure all our girls feel equipped and empowered to face a rapidly changing world with confidence and optimism.
