Summer Sport

Our athletes showed great fortitude in the final half term, despite heavy rain and scorching temperatures.

Our whole school Sports Day was disappointingly cancelled due to the conditions this year, but replaced by separate year group versions at the sports ground instead. Well done to the following who set new records this year: Maya in Year 8 (high jump) and Emma in Year 9 and Bess in the Lower Sixth (shot put).

Our ethos of inclusive excellence was celebrated during an energetic Sports for All Week, with the opportunity to try kinball, spikeball and even Scottish Dance during lessons whilst lunchtime activities included kickboxing, zorb football and some remarkably enthusiastic House dodgeball – a great way to unwind after the exam period. The week culminated in a retro sports day, where teachers and students embraced the egg and spoon, dressing up and three-legged races.

In the final full week of term, over 180 pupils gathered in Waterlow Hall to celebrate each other’s sporting successes. Pupil representatives for each key sport shared some highlights of the year, before British track and field athlete, Marilyn Okoro, gave an inspiring talk before presenting prizes for excellence and improvement across a range of sports. Congratulations to all our winners, with a special mention to the following: Sportswoman of the YearCecilia in Year 9; Elsie Janner Cup for Contribution to SportLottie in Year 10; Team of the YearU16A Netball Team; Most Improved Team of the YearSenior Cross-Country Team.
