Fringe Performers

Sixth Formers ventured to the world-famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer for a week of drama.

Six Lower Sixth students, as part of the South Hampstead Theatre Company Fuzed, spent an unforgettable week in the Scottish capital, staging The IT by Vivienne Franzmann – a darkly comic state-of-the-nation play exploring adolescent mental health. Together, they staged five stand-out performances at the Space venue on the Royal Mile, as well as flyering the streets to promote their play. Audience reviews were unanimous in their praise of the girls’ performances:

“An enthralling show – deeply moving, leavened with a few genuine laugh out loud moments. A must-see!”

“A thought-provoking play, brilliantly acted. It offers great insight into the lives of young people today. What a treat to find this at the fringe.”

“An exceptional ensemble performance… highly recommended.” 

The group also attended numerous theatre shows including Jitters and Bigfoot Ripped My Dog in Half I Saw It, both at Summerhall venues, and Supposing at the Traverse Theatre, which won a Scotsman Fringe First Award. The students enjoyed some brushes with celebrity idols and said the whole festival experience surpassed their expectations.

Director of Drama, Ms Martin, commented: “It was wonderful to see the students rise to the challenge of performing at such a prestigious festival. Their professionalism shone through each performance and they showed a determination to improve and develop their craft with every show, which indeed they did. Ms Caine’s addition of physical theatre and creative lighting design took the performances to another level. The audience were forthright in expressing their praise to the young cast, which was glorious to witness.”
