Drawing Inspiration
Artists of all ages have made an expressive start to the term.
From Reception to the Sixth Form, our pupils have been honing their artistic talents. Our youngest pupils in the Junior School have been creating impressive self-portraits, whilst our Senior School artists have been taking part in outdoor workshops, life drawing classes and exhibition visits. Year 10 Art GCSE students braved the drizzle for a instructive urban sketching workshop on the South Bank with the award-winning artist Jeanette Barnes; as part of their current ‘surfaces and spaces’ project, they sketched the city skyline along the Thames before visiting the Tate Modern. Back at school, students from Year 10 to the Sixth Form have been introduced to the basics of drawing the human form at lunchtime art enrichment sessions, using a range of different mediums – pen, pencil, inks, charcoal and chalk.
The Art and History of Art Departments lead regular visits to galleries on our doorstep as well as trips further afield. This year, our GCSE artists are heading to Berlin over half term and, next October, students are exploring the art, photography and visual culture of LA.
