A Great Estate
At the start of our 150th anniversary year, we unveiled new some fantastic new facilities.
Following a summer of record-breaking A Level and GCSE results, the school community had even more to celebrate as the new academic year got underway: the opening of a new outdoor learning space on the roof terrace and a state-of-the-art, on-site gym and wellness studio to complement the facilities at our expansive sports grounds.
Our youngest pupils from the Junior School visited the roof terrace at the start of term – smelling the herbs, hunting for bugs, taking in the city skyline, and asking a lot of questions – whilst Senior School pupils have been able to take advantage of the biophilic space at lunch and breaktimes throughout a sunny September. In our new fitness studio, our Sports Scholars and other Senior School pupils have been excited to try out the new equipment during their training sessions and PE lessons.
Head Mrs Paul, commented: “I am so grateful for the community’s generous support of our 150th anniversary campaign which has enabled these projects to happen; it’s been wonderful to see everyone enjoying these new facilities. But of course, South Hampstead is so much more than its buildings. We have come along way since our trailblazing origins in 1876 and, as we map out our next chapters, we have so much more to look forward to.”
The Sixth Form common room and café were also refurbished over the holidays, as more girls than ever choose to spend their final two school years at South Hampstead. At the Junior School, there are re-landscaped gardens and play facilities plus a special interactive timeline in the stairwell of 5 Netherhall Gardens, showcasing the evolution of the school and its history as we celebrate our 150th anniversary.
One of the key pillars of our Beyond 150 strategy, as we look beyond our 150th anniversary year, is creating a great estate – read more here.
