Academic Journals
Our Academic Scholars have contributed essays on the theme of harmony for our latest journals.
The latest edition of Beacon features a collection of articles written by our scholars in Year 11 and the Lower Sixth, mentored by older students. This year’s topics range from generative art and Wes Anderson’s cinematic style to polymathy and quantum entanglement. The Pilot Light brings together essays from our younger scholars in Years 7 to 10, again mentored by older pupils. Their essays tackle diverse subjects including biomimicry, garbage patches, honey bees, and synthetic inertia. The oil painting cover artworks for both journals, inspired by harmony within nature, were created by Sixth Form Art Scholar, Nancy, who plans to study History of Art at university; she has a particular interest in how art has been used to document historical events and as social and political propaganda.
Chiara, our 2025/26 Deputy Head Girl (Academic & Scholarship), who oversaw the latest publications commented: “Our scholars have embraced the theme of harmony, tackling big ideas with great aplomb. I certainly felt my horizons broadened by these articles, and I hope you do too!”
Each year, pupils in our Academic Scholarship programme attend Cross-Curriculum Enrichment events, participate and lead Academic Symposia, contribute to journals, join a cultural trip, and enjoy a celebratory quiz and pizza night. The programme aims to foster intellectual curiosity, critical discussion, and a love of learning in a context that foregrounds inter-year links.
