Essay Prizes

Our Lower Sixth students have triumphed in university essay competitions.

Malia was awarded third place in the prestigious Newnham College Woolf Essay Prize; named after Virginia Woolf,  the national competition is run by the Cambridge college, encouraging students to contemplate the role of women in literature, history, society and culture. In Newnham’s Engineering Essay Prize, Eleanor was commended for her piece exploring the use of drones to deliver medicine to people in Rwanda.

Two more students, Layal and Ahaana, were shortlisted in a global essay competition run by New College of the Humanities (NCH); Layal’s essay won third prize, exploring whether literature is always a force for good, while Ahaana discussed if democracy experiencing a setback worldwide. The annual NCH competition aims to engage talented, intellectually curious students who show passion and academic potential in the humanities and social sciences.
