Football Kicks Off

Our girls compete against fellow Girls’ Day School Trust pupils at regular sporting rallies. This term was the first GDST rally to feature football – the fastest growing participation sport among girls in the UK.

For the first time, our Under 13 footballers joined our Under 14 netballers for a day of sport, hosted by Northampton High School GDST. Well done to our football team who had an outstanding start, kicking off the day with a convincing win in their first match against Sydenham. The girls went on to win an additional three matches, as well as one draw in the group stages. Finishing second in their group resulted in the girls progressing onto the quarter finals, where their journey sadly came to an end. The girls displayed an exceptional level of football throughout the day and should be proud of their performance.

Our new Head of Football, Ms Hayes, joined South Hampstead this September from School 21 in Stratford, where she helped to transform the sporting landscape for girls. Through an after-school initiative, dubbed ‘Muscles & Mascara’, she helped to bolster the participation and enjoyment of young girls in sport in East London. At South Hampstead, she is excited to develop the girls’ skills in what is now one of our core winter sports, alongside netball and cross country.
