Grade 1 Challenge

In a reversal of roles, our talented musicians are now teaching their teachers as part of our Grade 1 Challenge.

Initiated by our Director of Music, Dr Collisson, the programme provides the opportunity for students to teach their academic teachers to learn a new instrument from scratch; the aim for the teachers is to reach Grade 1 standard by the end of the academic year.  The challenge has been running since 2015, with dozens of teachers achieving merits and distinctions.

This year, ten Sixth Formers are teaching ten members of staff to play an array of instruments, from the trombone and piano to the violin and singing.  We look forward to hearing their progress, and perhaps some performances, later this year.
