International Women’s Day

Student-led FemSoc celebrated this year’s International Women’s Day by honouring inspiring women.

The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day is ‘generation equality’. FemSoc leaders, Harriet and Lucia, report back on how they help to champion feminism and forge a more gender equal future:

‘For International Women’s Day, we made posters to celebrate a range of feminist icons, which we put all around the school. We invited all year groups to senior FemSoc, so everyone could share in our discussions about these inspiring women.  We wanted the whole school to be involved to mark this important day as our generation will hopefully drive real change and be the one to make the aim of equality a reality. We looked at women throughout history and in the present day, celebrating women as varied as Christine de Pizan, a 14th century feminist writer, and Sofia Coppola, the Hollywood director. We hope to continue celebrations beyond just today, encouraging the rest of the school to become involved in feminist campaigns and discussions.’
