Latin Drama
Students from Junior Classics Club ventured to Harrow to take part in a festival of spoken-Latin playlets.
Established by Westminster Under School more than 35 years ago, the annual Ludi Scaenici invites students from across London to write, direct and perform short plays in Latin, which are then evaluated by a panel of Classics experts and authors. For this year’s competition, Bella in Year 10 wrote the whole script in Latin herself, inspired by the Cambridge Latin Course, which was praised for its amazing plot line; John Taylor himself (author of the GCSE and A Level textbooks we use at South Hampstead) congratulated her on her achievement. Cassie in Year 7 also got a mention for best joke of the festival – more joyful scholarship in action. Well done to all our Junior Classics Club pupils who showed great courage and commitment, acting in Latin in front of an audience in a theatre mid-heatwave.
