Lockdown Learning

This term’s teaching and learning has continued apace, with plenty of activities to help liven up lockdown.

As the school entered another phase of Guided Home Learning, teachers have adapted with innovative ways to engage pupils. Live, online teaching continues as the default for most lessons; however, mindful of the amount of time spent on screen, these are now interspersed with a range of independent tasks and opportunities for collaborative work and hands-on learning, from science experiments with kitchen cupboard ingredients to artistic studies of household objects.

Pupils have spent form times putting on plays and enjoying offline, interrupted reading time. Screen breaks are now built in at the end of each lesson and every year group has a weekly ‘off timetable’ session after lunch to explore a new topic – afternoons have been spent responding to Royal Institution lectures, going on weekly wellness walks, hearing from inspiring guest speakers, taking virtual trips to historic sites, and watching theatre productions together.
