National Youth Theatre

One of our new Sixth Form Drama Scholars has secured a place with the National Youth Theatre.

Congratulations to Amy, currently in Year 11, who has been selected to join the theatre’s online summer course, working with professional directors.  The programme opens doors to a huge range of opportunities including involvement in National Youth Theatre (NYT) productions, creative leadership training, workshops and much more.  Amy submitted a self-tape video performing a monologue for the first round, before being invited for a recall via Zoom.

Amy, who has been awarded South Hampstead Sixth Form Drama Scholarship from September, plans to study Drama, English, History of Art and Philosophy & Religion next year.  She follows in the footsteps of another of our Drama Scholars, alumna Eliza, who was awarded a place with the NYT last year.

Amy commented: “At South Hampstead, we are given so much freedom to take the lead and fully explore our own ideas… There is such a positive dynamic between students and teachers and I have learnt so much about teamwork from my experiences in productions. A highlight was being part of the ‘Emilia’ production pre-pandemic – I made so many close friends and learnt so much.”

Meanwhile, all our Drama students in Years 10, 11 and the Sixth Form gained distinctions in their recent LAMDA exams.

South Hampstead offers Sixth Form Academic, Art, Drama and Music Scholarships, as well as means-tested bursaries – find out more about how to apply.
