Online Eco Action

Our student Eco Committee have been collaborating online with pupils all across London, galvanising a proactive community that shares ideas and takes positive, environmental action.

This half term, our existing London Schools Eco-Network has move online. Student eco-teams from South Hampstead, North London Collegiate, St Paul’s Girls’, Channing, West London Free School and City of London Girls’ have been meeting weekly via Zoom to make plans for future projects, including a joint video assembly and MP email campaign for World Environment Day on 5th June and a Virtual Schools COP26 (global climate conference) in November in lieu of the postponed official event in Glasgow.

Despite the logistical challenges of bringing students from multiple schools together online, the students’ determination to hold these group meetings – which they chair and minute themselves on rotation – has really paid off, with tangible joint projects planned and a genuine sense of shared endeavour developing in the ether. We look forward to seeing how this remote environmental collaboration develops next half term and welcoming new members.

The Eco Committee is headed up by Sixth Formers and our Design & Technology Teacher, Ms Wrigglesworth – one of only a few UN-certified climate change teachers in London. Our overarching, strategic initiative, Project Zero, is a pupil-led, whole school initiative that aims to improve the school’s environmental credentials by our 150th anniversary, significantly reducing the school’s carbon footprint and contribution to landfill by 2026.
