Saturday Sparks

It has been a joy to welcome local pupils to our re-launched Saturday Sparks booster sessions this term.

The Saturday morning programme, open to Year 5 pupils from neighbouring schools, was established several years ago; in the wake of the pandemic, it has now been expanded to include creative writing sessions as well as puzzles and problem-solving challenges.

Enthusiastic 9 and 10 year olds joined us for their first English session on Saturday, exploring descriptive writing and experimenting with metaphors, ably led by our English Teachers and Sixth Form volunteers.  Participants were joined by one of our bursary mentors and published author,  Lola Busari, who shared her own experience of creative writing.

The weekend sessions are some of the many outreach activities we lead; our staff and pupils also visit schools across London to teach Music, Classics, Modern Languages and Sciences. Central to our partnerships programme is our award-winning Debate Hub, which provides opportunities for hundreds of pupils to find their voice and develop oracy skills via a busy schedule of coaching and competitions.
