Scholars’ Journals

Our latest journals feature edifying essays on the theme of the future, written by our Academic Scholars.

Academic Scholars in Year 11 and the Lower Sixth contribute to the Beacon. For this edition, students tackled future-focused topics ranging from evolutionary game theory and predicting the apocalypse, to the future of Classics and philosophical enquiry – read it here. The cover illustration was created by Maya, one of our Sixth Form Art Scholars, whose pencil drawn portraits explore the theme of future through the lens of ageing and growth.

The Pilot Light includes articles written by our younger scholars in Years 7 to 10 – read it here. Their future-themed essays cover subjects including synthetic biology, AI in education, Greek prophecies and Taylor Swift. The cover artwork is a digital illustration depicting life on other planets, created by Lower Sixth Art Scholar, Amalie.

Deputy Head Girl (Academic), Aadya, oversaw the latest publications: “The  journals reflect the variety of perspectives on offer and showcase the individual passions of each scholar. I hope you enjoy reading this multifaceted collection of thought-provoking essays as much as I have.”

Each year, pupils in our academic scholarship programme attend symposia, contribute to academic journals, join a cultural trip, and enjoy a celebratory dinner. The programme aims to foster intellectual curiosity, critical discussion, and a love of learning in a context that foregrounds inter-year links. Academic Scholarships are awarded on entry to Year 7 and the Sixth Form.
