Science At Home

Pupils enjoyed an afternoon off timetable to watch and respond to the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures.

In a change to their usual Guided Home Learning lessons, Year 10 tuned into hear from Professor Chris Jackson of Imperial College London. This year’s lectures presented a unique ‘user’s guide’ to Planet Earth, with the geologist and adventurer showing how the planet’s oldest rocks and fossils tell a story of radical climate changes. Year 9 heard from physicist and oceanographer Dr Helen Czerski, from University College London, explaining why the ocean is so vital to life on each.

Pupils spent the afternoon responding to what they had learned, making posters, writing poems, creating art and building volcanoes and waterfalls. Professor Jackson retweeted images of the girls’ work, commenting: “I’m honestly grinning from ear to ear! This is simply lovely.”
