Singers join LSO

Our young musicians visited the Barbican this week, singing – and dancing – with live accompaniment from the London Symphony Orchestra.

Pupils in Year 1 and 2 went to the Barbican Centre, home to the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO), to attend a concert on the theme of ‘Myths & Monsters’.  Featuring music by Beethoven, Dvorak and Tchaikovsky, the concert finished with a roaring ‘Can-Can’ by Offenbach, much to the delight of the girls, who were all dancing in their seats. The girls met members of the orchestra and even had the opportunity to sing along with them – an introduction to performing on the biggest of stages.

Music and performance are really celebrated at the Junior School, led by Mr Christensen, Director of Music. All girls are introduced to a string instrument in Year 1 and to the recorder in Year 2, while the Junior School Chamber Choir have been crowned the Girls’ Day School Trust ‘Young Choir of the Year’ on two of the last three occasions.
