Space Exploration

Last weekend, members of our student-led lunchtime Space Society embarked on another Galactic Challenge.

Following their win at last term’s UK Space Design Competition at Imperial College, the girls headed to King’s College London to see if they could emerge victorious again.

This time, they were tasked with developing a colony on the planet Mercury. Elected team president Eva was joined by fellow Space Society members Sabrina, Louise, Honor and Nikita (all from Year 9) along with three girls from other schools. Despite stiff competition from the other teams, the judges – who included Physics Professors and Researchers from King’s, UCL and Imperial – were clearly impressed by their technically detailed presentation, awarding them top prize for the second contest in a row.

The UK Space Design Competition is a science and engineering competition designed as a simulation of life in industry, aiming to enable students to experience the opportunities available through future study and careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths).
