Sports Awards

We celebrated our pupils’ sporting achievements across the Senior School at this year’s Sports Awards evening.

Over 140 pupils gathered in Waterlow Hall to reflect on the sporting successes of the year. Guest speaker Eboni Usoro-Brown presented the prizes to this year’s sports stars; the recently retired netballer has 117 caps for the England Roses and was part of the gold medal winning team in the 2018 Commonwealth Games. She shared inspiring details of her own sporting journey, reminding the girls of the importance of determination and courage in pursuing their goals, and set out her five point plan:

1. Set a goal – make sure it has short/medium and long term markers

2. Self belief – you have to be your own biggest champion/ cheerleader

3. Get comfortable feeling uncomfortable; you have to take a leap of faith and step outside your comfort zone

4. Utilise your support network – share your dreams and ambitions with those that might be able to help you on the journey to succes

5. Enjoy the journey – too often we look to what the next success will be; make sure to bank the moments and memories and truly reflect on how far you’ve come!

Awards were presented for excellence and improvement across a range of sports in every year group. Congratulations to all our winners, with a special mention to:

  • The U16A Netball Team, our ‘team of the year’ for their second successive year as county champions
  • The U12B Netball Team, ‘most improved team of the year’,  following their victory in the Sisters n Sport U12 Bowl competition
  • And our ‘athlete of the year’, Alice in Year 9, who has had a fantastic season on the ski slopes, netball and tennis courts as well as the cricket pitch

We champion inclusive excellence in sport at South Hampstead. Squad training, expert coaching, competitive fixtures, sports scholarships and our Going for Gold programme help to support our elite squads and individual athletes, whilst we also emphasise sporting opportunities for all, through initiatives such as our recent Sports For All Week
