STEM Photographers of the Year

In the run up to British Science Week, our photography competition encouraged pupils to capture the beauty of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

The inaugural competition attracted entries from pupils at a number of schools in the area, who submitted a broad range of powerful and captivating images. The entries were judged by Ms Russo, South Hampstead’s Director of STEM, who was commended as one of the world’s top 50 teachers in 2018 for her work campaigning to get more girls into Science.

She commented: “This competition is one of the many initiatives we undertake to ensure Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths are engaging and relatable to as many students as possible. The calibre and diversity of entries has been amazing. I’m passionate about exploding the myth that STEM subjects aren’t creative and developing more ideas to help showcase the value of interdisciplinary thinking.”

Congratulations to the prizewinners in each category, whose captioned images feature in the gallery above, alongside other entries. The winning photos are also on display at South Hampstead for the school’s STEM Week, until the end of term.
