Summer Music
The summer term kicked off with a jazz night, followed by more spectacular music-making.
In a low-lit Waterlow Hall, families gathered over drinks and small plates for an evening of incredible jazz, classic swing and Latin flair, where our talented musicians from Salsera, Big Band, Jazz Ensembles, Fusion Project and Ghost Notes performed to an exceptionally high standard.
The same week, our choirs and orchestras assembled for yet another outstanding concert. The Senior Choir joined forces with the Choral Society and members of staff to perform Vivaldi’s Gloria, accompanied by the Chamber Orchestra. The Chamber Orchestra also performed movements from Grieg’s Holberg Suite, while the Symphony Orchestra gave an outstanding performance of Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite No. 1. The evening was bittersweet as we bid farewell to our Class of 2026 musicians at their final South Hampstead concert, recognising the enormous contribution they have made to the musical life of the school.
Four Sixth Form musicians organised a special chamber music concert to raise money for breast cancer research, baking cakes for the occasion and curating a wonderful evening of music-making. Keira and Gaby in the Upper Sixth performed a violin duet by Berio before joining Sophie and Alexa in the Lower Sixth for a performance of the entirety of Vivaldi’s Concerto for Four Violins.
After half term, we look forward to even more music-making, including the final Teatime Concert of the year, the Summer Chamber Music Concert, the Joint Wind Band Concert and, finally, the joyful Summer Concert, where our large ensembles will have their last opportunity to perform this academic year. Congratulations to all our musicians on such an inspiring half term of performances.
