Summer Sports

We began the term with an uplifting gymnastics showcase, before summer sports got underway.

Our tennis players have started the season with some outstanding performances. Over 70 players have been training each week and over 50 pupils have played in fixtures so far, including the Aberdare Cup, LTA Cup competitions and friendly fixtures against local schools. Our Year 7/8 team and Year 9/10 team are both sitting in second position in the LTA competitions, both having only lost one match this season.

Our cricketers started the season buoyed by the co-curricular clubs and indoor competitions throughout the autumn and spring terms, which has had a positive impact on their performances this term, both in softball and hardball matches. The U15 hardball team is still in both the 100 Ball National Cup and Sports Magazine 20/20 National Cup, whilst our U13 hardball team are in the quarterfinals of the Middlesex competition – we look forward to charting their progress. Meanwhile, Alice and Dia in Year 10, two of our Sports Scholars, have been selected to join the GDST’s top cricketers to play against the MCC for the second year running.

Our athletes have had a great term so far too. At the English Schools’ Athletics Association (ESAA) track and field cup, our Intermediate girls came first, progressing onto the regional final in June.  At the GDST Athletics rally in Nottingham, our 35 athletes in Years 5 to 10 had a great day; Emma in Year 7 placed first in the shot put, with a throw of 7.62m, while Mimi in Year 9 won the high jump, clearing an impressive 1.40m. Preparations are now well underway for Sports Day on Wednesday 26th June – we look forward to seeing some new school records and PBs on the day!

In other sporting news, we congratulate our fencers, Eliana, Matilde, Pandora and Zoya, who recently competed in the British Youth Fencing Championships, where Zoya in the Upper Sixth won Bronze in the Under 18 épée – a fantastic performance.
