21% of South Hampstead students have secured Oxbridge offers this year.
Over a fifth of South Hampstead students have received Oxbridge offers – eight offers for Cambridge and eight for Oxford – to read a range of subjects: Chemistry to Classics, Economics to English, and Fine Art to Human, Social & Political Sciences. Offers were received by girls who joined the Sixth Form just last year as well as those who have been at South Hampstead since the age of four.
There have already been numerous positive outcomes for students wanting to pursue their studies at a range of other destinations too. Based on past five year data, the other leavers’ destinations in the top 10 for South Hampstead pupils are Bristol, Edinburgh, Leeds, Durham, University College London, King’s College London, Manchester and Nottingham. Typically, approximately 80% of South Hampstead applicants are placed in Russell Group universities each year, with others securing places at prestigious medical schools, art colleges and universities overseas. One South Hampstead student has already received an offer from the Ivy League Columbia University, with more offers from top US destinations expected in the coming months.
The school’s comprehensive Futures Programme equips all pupils for life beyond their school years. Pupils begin building their workplace skills, developing their CVs, exploring career options and gaining work experience early in the Senior School. As they progress through the school, they are given tailored advice to support their GCSE and A Level choices and explore a range of higher education options for life after Sixth Form. The programme is headed up by Dr Osborne, who has a MEng from Oxford and a PhD in NanoBioTechnology from Imperial; she leads a team of experts who offer bespoke advice and one-to-one support, including preparation for Oxbridge and international universities, as well as advising on gap year opportunities.
The diversity of leavers’ destinations and subjects studied is testament to the girls’ academic ambition but also their individuality: South Hampstead’s pioneering young women go on to specialise in all kinds of fields. A supportive community of alumnae (from prize-winning authors to ground-breaking scientists, passionate performers to distinguished lawyers) regularly come back to give talks across a range of fields and offer diverse mentoring and networking opportunities – an invaluable stepping stone to life after South Hampstead, whatever path each girl decides to pursue.
South Hampstead offers full bursary places as well as Academic, Art, Drama and Music Scholarships in the Sixth Form. To enquire about entry to the Sixth Form for September 2020, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
