Winter Penguin

The fifth edition of the student magazine, The Penguin, has landed in time for the holidays.

The latest issue is packed with quintessentially South Hampstead articles: rigorous debate, satirical commentary on school life, enlightening interviews, acerbically witty horoscopes, and the ever-popular Overheard at South Hampstead, featuring snippets such as: “Give me a sec, I’m just going to speed read the Iliad.”

Stunning photo-shoots and quirky comic strips feature alongside poetry, quizzes, recipes and reviews of books, films and exhibitions.  The girls’ commitment to the environment shines through, with pieces on climate change, how to have an eco-Christmas and the pros and cons of sustainable period products. Addressing the over-arching theme of ‘myths’, many articles explore pressing misconceptions, such as why Year 7s have such big bags… and the secrets that lie within.

Congratulations to the editorial team – Sonja, Sophie, Abbey, Lola, Ishika, Liana, Sydney, Lita, Megan, Lara, Penelope and Isabella – as well as all the contributors for pulling together an edifying and entertaining issue.  Pick up your copy from the reception area.
