1876 Society Celebration
At our 1876 Society supper, we celebrated the community’s support of our Opening Doors bursary programme.
Named after our founding year, the 1876 Society recognises all those who have pledged a regular annual gift of £1,876 or more, or have donated the equivalent of a full fee place. The 1876 Society is just one of the many strands of our Opening Doors bursary programme as we seek to increase opportunity at the school for all bright young women, regardless of means. The annual meeting of the society provided an opportunity for the Head, Mrs Paul, to report on our progress with bursaries, and to share our exciting plans for the 150th Anniversary Campaign.
Since the 1876 Society was formed, more than 180 people have become members and over £2 million has been given or pledged to support bursary places. This September, we will welcome 10 more students with bursary awards; this means that 52 girls will be benefiting from a South Hampstead education as a result of our community’s support.
The evening was filled with lively conversation and laughter with our special guest, actor Jim Carter OBE; the only thing lacking was some sunshine, but the warmth and enthusiasm of our society members more than made up for the chilly temperatures outside.
