Charity Update

Our Sixth Form charity and partnerships captains have mobilised a range of community events and fundraising initiatives so far this term.

Today’s animal-themed non-uniform day at the Senior School helped to raise funds to purchase zoo tickets for single parents and their children, supporting The Winch – a local charity that our girls and families bake cakes for each week. This morning’s assembly marked the launch of our annual Mitzvah Day campaign – this year, we will be supporting several charities, including Bloody Good Period, Euston Foodbank and Israeli foodbank, Leket. We are also grateful to all our many parents and families who find the time to give back, via our partnership with Spear Camden who help disadvantaged young people to find work, and Numbersense, supporting children in nearby primary schools who have fallen behind in Maths.

This term, Year 10 pupils embarked on our well-established pensioners’ link programme, visiting local residential and day care homes at lunchtime, building relationships with the elderly in the community. Large numbers of pupils in Year 9 and above are now engaged with a variety of volunteering initiatives as part of the Duke of Edinburgh scheme, which has very high take-up at South Hampstead.

Fundraising for this year’s school charity is also well underway. This year, the girls opted to support Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED), tackling poverty and inequality by supporting and empowering marginalised girls to succeed. So far, the Upper Sixth have organised a movie afternoon, and the entire Modern Foreign Languages department are tackling a 5km in Battersea Park, with plenty more activities planned for after half term and beyond.
