French Work Experience
A Level linguists honed their language skills in Lille, taking on work placements and staying with local host families.
During the October half-term, a group of Upper Sixth students studying A Level French embarked on a homestay and work experience visit to Lille in Northern France, accompanied by Mr Morley. After the 90 minute Eurostar journey from St Pancras, the students were warmly welcomed by their host families. The linguists relished the opportunity to spend time immersing themselves in authentic life and enjoying the French cuisine. As well as getting to know their families, students also completed their work experience in Lille city centre, travelling daily to their placements and getting to know the bustling university city; our students worked in cafés, boutiques, a sports shop, a toy shop and even a dog-grooming parlour!
Students spoke very fondly of the wonderful welcome they received from their host families and their genuine interest in the cultural exchange. They made the most of every opportunity to speak French, both with their families and in the workplace, enjoying a highly informative insight into the realities of working life.
